Mythology and the Goddess

Mythology and the Goddess have been a deep source of inspiration throughout my creative life.

I’ve always been fascinated by the ancient stories, symbols and images that have survived across thousands of years, particularly the goddesses who embody the great mysteries of life: creation, death and renewal, nature, desire, motherhood, transformation and the changing seasons.

The Goddess appears in many forms, and I find myself continually discovering new stories and ways of seeing her.

Each year, the Lunar Diary features one of the many primordial goddesses who inspire my work and the way I choose to live. Together, they create an unfolding story through the diary, a journey through the different phases of the great cycle.

Rhea

Primordial Mother Earth

In 2025, Rhea was the goddess to grace the cover of the Lunar Diary.

One of the ancient Mother Goddesses of Greek mythology, Rhea represents the great creative force of Mother Earth, the source from which life emerges and to which all life eventually returns.

She speaks to the deep stillness of the earth, the darkness from which new life begins, and the mystery of creation.

Ariadne

The Seasonal Cycle

This year 2026, Ariadne is the goddess on the cover.

In the mythology I have woven around her, Ariadne is the daughter of Rhea and keeper of the seasonal cycle. Each winter she descends into the underworld, where she tends to the souls of the dead and cares for the bees. When spring returns, she emerges once again into the light, bringing with her the renewal of life.

Her story speaks to the cyclical nature of existence, the descent into darkness, the return to light and the continual renewal of life.

Aphrodite

The Rising

Next year, 2027, Aphrodite will grave the cover.

She is one of the many faces of the Goddess whose qualities inspire my creative work and the way I choose to live.

Aphrodite’s emergence from the sea particularly captures my imagination. She rises from the waters, becoming fully herself, a beautiful image of renewal and emergence.

In our own cycles, we too move through darkness, light and darkness again. Each month we shed, renew and emerge once more.

Her beauty reminds us that beauty is not simply something we experience outside ourselves. It can also be found within, in the unfolding of our true selves, our creativity, our bodies and our desires.

This understanding of the Goddess is woven throughout my work and is at the heart of the Lunar Diary. It is an invitation to remember that we are not meant to be constantly doing and becoming. There are times to create and times to rest, times to emerge and times to retreat.

And so, each year, another goddess joins the story.

Another face of the Goddess. Another part of the cycle.

There is always more to discover.
